  • How should I resolve this situation with my fiancées mom?

    Marriage & Divorce - 6 hours ago

    Additional Details

My fiancée is 23. He is out of school with a bachelors and has a stable job. I just got out of school and will begin my job as a high school teacher this fall. We are pretty stable. His mother is not pleased with us getting married. She is extremely clingy to the point of where it's almost neurotic. She had told him that us getting married is unfair to her. We will be living in a rather large plantation style home that he inherited from his grandmother, and we'll be fine as far as money goes. We've been dating for 6 years yet, somehow she believes he is locking himself into a relationship he has no idea about. She says that him getting married is unfair because she worries enough about him as it is, and when he is married, he is unlocking himself from her. (Despite the fact that we will be living 45 minutes away. About as far as he lives from her now). When he asked her when she thought an appropriate time to get married was, she said mid thirties. She told him she did not approve of any marriage younger then that. This is fine for some, but for me...I want a family. Having a baby in mid thirties is somewhat risky. I want a couple. She has also expressed to him, that a high school history teacher will not be bringing in a decent salary. Never mind the fact that he alone makes $40,000 a year with his job. I'm making about $30. And we're just starting out. I understand how parents are iffy and a bit uncomfortable with the subject of marriage for their children. But she calls us multiple times a day to try to get us to end this marriage. she's even gone as far as calling my parents (who she's only met a couple times due to long distance). She's tried to talk them into convincing me to go back to Chicago (we live in NC) or to find some way to stop me from choosing this. It's obnoxious and I don't know how to deal with this. And what's worse is that we have no idea what she will do during the actual wedding.

World Health Organization says Japan, San Marino top life expectancy league

By Frank Jordans, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
World Health Organization says Japan, San Marino top life expectancy league

GENEVA - A girl born in Japan today will likely live to celebrate her 86th birthday, the longest life expectancy anywhere in the world. Men fare best in the tiny European country of San Marino, where the average boy will live to 81, the World Health Organization said Thursday.

The West African country of Sierra Leone has the shortest life expectancy for men - just 39 - while Afghanistan fares badly for both sexes, with men and women living on average to 41 and 42 years respectively.

The figures in WHO's annual World Health Statistics report are from 2007, the latest year available.

They show that some countries have made remarkable progress in increasing life expectancy since 1990 - partly by ending wars, partly through successful health initiatives.

Eritrea increased its average life expectancy by 33 years to 61 for men, and by 12 years to 65 for women. In Liberia the figure for men jumped 29 years to 54, and rose 13 years to 58 for women. Angola, Bangladesh, Maldives, Niger and East Timor also increased the average life expectancy for men and women by 10 years.

Other countries showed a sharp decline over the same period.

Women's life expectancy in Zimbabwe fell by 19 years to 44; Zimbabwean men live to 45 on average, compared to age 57 in 1990. Lesotho recorded a 16-year drop for both men and women to 43 and 47 respectively. Women in Swaziland live to 49 on average, a drop of 14 years. Men's life expectancy in the southern African country declined by 12 years to 47.

Botswana, Congo, Kenya, South Africa and Zambia also reported significant drops in life expectancy for both sexes.

In Russia, the average life expectancy for men dropped to 60 from 64 years since the time of the Soviet Union. For women the drop was less marked, to 73 from 74 years.

The figures are only one of over 100 health indicators that WHO tracks in its 193 member states.

Others include mother and child mortality; prevalence of diseases such as HIV, malaria and tuberculosis; access to doctors and medical facilities; and health expenditure per person.

Some of these indicators form part of the UN's so-called Millennium Development Goals that are to be achieved by 2015.

WHO said the trend for deaths in young children was promising overall, with a global drop of 27 per cent since 1990.

Some nine million children under five years old died in 2007, compared to 12.5 million in 1990.

"The decline in the death toll of children under five illustrates what can be achieved," said WHO's director of statistics, Ties Boerma.

The increased use of insecticide-treated mosquito nets for malaria, oral rehydration therapy for diarrhoea, better access to vaccines and improved water and sanitation in developing countries are proving particularly effective, he said.

Citizen: Even in 2009, men in Canada are out on the road more commuting (car crash deaths), men are on average more adventurous (shy diving, other sports-related deaths) and men generally have more physical jobs than women (work-related deaths). All of these things bring the average life span of men down below that of women here and around the world.

Discovery: "European people live longer than any other people" Try reading tha article again. Japanese women live the longest and Japanese men are not far behind the men of San Marino, therefore Japanese people live longer than the vast majority of Europeans.

Well to start with I'm a Canadian who never finished high school (dropped out after grade 10 to work in my chosen trade). I have taken many IQ test and consistently score between 118 and 130.... Education has little to do with IQ, if you are an intelligent person you will learn things on your own, from books, personal experience...... School is actually a very inefficient form of education and I personally believe it is geared more towards making everyone alike.....It is more like mass brainwashing then anything. They teach us all select bits of information from chosen subjects, this will ultimately control our thinking and outlook on the world. Honestly I have yet to be asked for a high school diploma at any job interview, I can't think of anything I have leaned in school aside from basic math skills that has benefited me in my chosen works. My work by the way is the auto body trade and my specialty is custom work, this has been a life long interest for me and yet whenever I tried to involve it in my school career my teachers shunned it. I was often forbidden from researching cars, writing essays on them or any of the like! If someone has an interest that falls outside the chosen curriculum in school they are out of luck! If you think about it we are all born with some interest that we can't control, an impulse of what we want to do in life, something we are driven too. For me that is cars and i can learn and retain information about cars very easily compared to other subjects. So way did our education system try to drive me away from something that I so easily excel in? This is where our education system sadly lacks, they treat everyone the same and yet we are all so different. Why not have more available subjects that can be chosen at a young age to better meet the interests of the students?

So in a country like Canada, where there isn’t a war, why does society accept the fact that men have a shorter life span? Why doesn't the government spend more money researching this disparity between men and women, and build an action plan to close the gap? The fact that men die 4.7 years earlier than women (78.0 vs. 82.7) is a serious health issue in Canada that receives no attention. Just think of how many life years are lost in Canada alone. Half the population multiplied by 4.7 years. We are talking about almost 100,000,000 life years. This is a far more concerning number which gets brushed off by society, the media, medical research, and special interest groups as "just the way it is". How has society's views been twisted to downplay areas where women's lives are better than men's, but react in horror where men's lives are subjectively deemed better than women's? How many life years are lost to breast cancer? Not even in the same realm. Yet, where do all the research dollars go? That's right, breast cancer research. Let’s focus on giving all citizens equality, which also means an equal lifespan.

Dear Linda C, I think you just proved Proudmamma78's point, with your pathetic and irrational diatribe. It's beyond stupid for you to try and blame Canada's poor IQ ranking on immigrants who are usually only allowed to get in if they have university degree or equivalent skill (unless if you're White & from Western Europe, in which case even a high-school degree will get you in). I worked in Canadian Immigration Depts in Ottawa, it's clear that most immigrants that Canada lets in from Asia (primarily, India, China, Korea, Japan and Vietnam) were WAAYYYY more qualified than 'generic' Anglo-Canadians; that's because the Canadian govt gets to decide who gets in based on their qualifications and/or skillset, whereas no such criteria is applied if you're born in Canada [you could be a moron & Canada still has to keep you; ain't the right Linda C? ;-) ]. If anything, the fact that Canada's IQ is below the global average, despite receiving the cream of the crop white-collar immigration from Asia (i.e. high-IQ immigrants), is shameful and something we ought to examine to find out why. Oh and one more thing, the qualifications criteria kinda 'disappear' if the applicant is a white European. Example of 2 applications that came across my screen while I was at Immigration Canada: Candidate #1: Consular Assessment: Applicant is a 26 year old single female, fluent in English, University degree, very personable, good candidate will fit in to Canadian society relatively easily. Result: APPLICATION DENIED. Candidate #2: Consular Assessment: Applicant is a 55 year old women, who only speaks only Norwegian, No French nor English skills, candidate only has High School degree. Result: APPLICATION ACCEPTED. Candidate #1 (rejected) was from India, Candidate #2 (accepted) was from Norway. So if Canada does has a lower than average IQ it isn't because of immigrants from developing countries, but maybe because of longterm unselective immigration from Scandinavia.

By exhausting a person psychologically, reducing his ability to think, it is easy to brainwash him without him fighting back. This is just basic psychology. They achieve these in many ways: laughing with hidden intention of stopping others laugh by laughing louder and with a hatred undertone, cry out in front of the march on Remembrance Day to act like they are the one whom went to battle, spray drink on you without reason and laugh when you get angry, give you less change when working as cashier, give you wrong drugs as a doctor, give you discriminative treatment as a cop and so on. They group together so it is difficult to attack each one. They go against ethics because they knew they don’t have to take responsibility. Their second milestone is in media manipulation. Media control is to make every person think everyone else is feministic, and to make a nation felt like other nations are feministic so it needs to change. No one dares to attack them when they have the media in control. Feminists interest group makes their idea look like the public idea and make anyone opposing them look bad. Politicians are afraid to lose their political life so they are afraid to solve the underlying problem. Since people knew the media is being controlled but did not do something to stop it, they falls into a 'loser' mentality in which they just accepts everything that is channeled into them telling themselves it wasn't too bad, unable to resist. KIBOU made this document to explain things for you. KIBOU writes a load. To me, wrong way of doing things are wrong. Feminists do things by inducing fear, that is the reason why I will never support them. No discussion needed. Simple. We wouldn't do this if we don't care. http://www.box.net/shared/z7gi1x0v7h http://pickup.mofile.com/5616876597010544

In a recent released report according to World Health Statistics 2009, issued by the World Health Organization.
The report shows that children younger than 5 account for nearly 20% of the world's deaths, and that child mortality is a major reason for the wide range in life expectancy among countries.
